UK and Europe
In Europe, EDF Trading is one of the largest participants in the power and gas markets and was one of the first entrants into the global market for liquefied natural gas. EDF Trading has a dedicated Nordic office, based in Oslo, which is active across all energy commodities, with a primary focus on the electricity markets.
EDF Trading has participated in the EU emissions market since it began and is one of the top buyers of carbon credits from Clean Development Mechanism projects around the world.
Its global coal and freight business is the largest importer of coal into Europe and EDF Trading is also a pioneer in the biomass market.
North America
EDF Trading is able to offer physical acquisition, management and delivery of natural gas, power and coal in the United States and Canada.
It is one of the largest providers of market services to the wholesale gas and power sectors in North America specialising in energy logistics and asset optimisation.
Activities include balancing and matching customer supply and demand, providing optimisation of gas storage and transportation assets as well as power generation assets and providing financial hedging and risk management products to its customers.
Asia
Chubu Energy Trading is a coal procurement partnership between leading Japanese utility Chubu Electric Power and EDF Trading.
Chubu Energy Trading procures and delivers coal for Chubu’s Hekinan power station, the largest coal-fired power station in Japan and one of the largest in the world. In cooperation with EDF Trading’s coal and freight desks in London, it is also establishing commercial trading activities with numerous wholesale counterparties in Japan and the Asia Pacific region including utilities, producers, shippers, consumers and trading companies.
Based in Nagoya, Japan and integrated with Chubu’s existing fossil fuel procurement activities, Chubu Energy Trading operations are based on the same business model as that adopted by EDF Trading. This model, together with EDF Trading’s global coal and freight market experience has enabled Chubu Energy Trading to be well positioned in the Asian energy market.
