EDF Trading confirms extension of cooperation with Chubu Electric Power
09 March 2010
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc (Nagoya) and EDF Trading Ltd confirmed today that they will continue their cooperation in Chubu Energy Trading (“CET”), a jointly-operated fuel procurement and supply business based in Nagoya, Japan.
CET was established by Chubu in 2007 as a separate corporate entity with a mandate to test a different approach to the traditional procurement model in Japan. Following a successful two-year period involving the supply to Chubu of about half of its coal consumption and associated freight, Chubu and EDF Trading have agreed to extend and expand the CET partnership, and to consider the future potential for LNG and oil.
John Rittenhouse, Chief Executive of EDF Trading said “This successful joint venture has exceeded our initial expectations and reinforces the effectiveness of an asset-backed trading model. The validity and success of our model within the Pacific energy markets is thanks to the cooperation and support provided by Chubu. It’s been an honour working with Chubu and we look forward to supporting the second phase of CET’s development.”
