EDF Trading extends its partnership with Chubu Electric Power

EDF Trading, a wholly-owned subsidiary of EDF S.A., and Chubu Electric Power will establish and operate a new coal procurement and supply operation in Singapore.

The new entity, Chubu Energy Trading Singapore (CET Singapore), will become effective from 1st April 2012 and will take over the exclusive mandate for Chubu’s coal procurement and freight logistics with a view to engaging more effectively with the international coal and freight market community based in Singapore. Key staff and commercial operations, currently based at Chubu Energy Trading in Japan, will transfer to CET Singapore.

Chubu Energy Trading was originally established in Nagoya by Chubu Electric and EDF Trading in 2008 and successfully utilised the asset-based business model approach of EDF Trading to optimise Chubu’s coal and freight positions.

“We have a great relationship with Chubu and I’m honoured that we are able to strengthen our cooperation even further. Having direct control over the supply chain is an important aspect of the operation which has contributed to a reduction in Chubu’s coal procurement costs. We look forward to the next stage in our partnership,” said John Rittenhouse, Chief Executive of EDF Trading.
