Enlight and ENERTRAG Break Ground on 200 MW Bertikow Battery Storage Project in Germany
· The project has entered the construction phase, with commercial operation targeted for the first half of 2028
· The project has entered into a seven-year offtake agreement with EDF Trading and will be optimised by Entrix
· The project is expected to provide grid restoration support services under a ten-year agreement commencing in July 2029
London/Dauerthal, October 14, 2026 – Enlight Renewable Energy (TASE: ENLT; NASDAQ: ENLT) and ENERTRAG SE today announced the official start of construction of the Bertikow battery energy storage project in Brandenburg, Germany, following a groundbreaking ceremony held at the project site on October 13.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from Enlight, ENERTRAG and 50Hertz, as well as politicians, partners and local residents.
Bertikow is a utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) with power capacity of 200 MW and energy storage capacity of approximately 840 MWh. The project is jointly owned by Enlight and ENERTRAG.
Located near the Bertikow substation in the Uckerfelde municipality, the project has secured land rights and grid access. The development-to-construction handover has been completed, and construction is now underway. Commercial operation is currently targeted for first half of 2028
Once operational, Bertikow is expected to participate in Germany’s day-ahead & intraday energy markets as well as ancillary services markets, providing flexibility to help balance electricity supply and demand.
The project is also expected to provide grid restoration support services under a ten-year agreement commencing in July 2029, creating an additional source of long-term contracted revenue while supporting the resilience of Germany’s electricity grid.
The project has entered into a seven-year offtake agreement with EDF Trading for part of its capacity. The agreement represents Enlight’s first European BESS offtake transaction and marks the company’s entry into Germany’s battery storage market. The asset will be optimized by Entrix.
Osborne Clarke acted as legal advisor to Enlight and ENERTRAG in connection with the offtake transaction.
Stefan Schlüter, Head of DACH Origination, EDF Trading:
“The growth of battery storage across Europe is driving demand for increasingly sophisticated commercial solutions. This agreement combines revenue certainty with commercial flexibility and demonstrates how innovative offtake structures can support the development of large-scale storage facilities. We look forward to working with Enlight, ENERTRAG and Entrix on the Bertikow facility.”
Marko Liposcak, General Manager Enlight Europe:
“As renewable energy continues to grow across Europe, large-scale energy storage is becoming increasingly important to the flexibility and reliability of electricity grids. Bertikow is a clear example of how projects like this can help meet these evolving needs, while further strengthening Enlight’s presence in the European energy storage market. Together with ENERTRAG, we are pleased to mark the start of construction and take another important step toward bringing this project into operation.”
Dr Gunar Hering, CEO of ENERTRAG:
“Bertikow is proof that the energy transition works in practice. We store surplus renewable power and feed it back into the grid precisely when it is needed most: making clean electricity reliable around the clock and keeping the economic value in the region.”
Constantin Nicklas, Chief Revenue Officer, Entrix:
“Bankability and revenue potential don't have to be a trade-off. With ENERTRAG, Enlight and EDF Trading, we built a structure that maximizes returns for Bertikow without compromising the risk profile and financing requirements of our partners.”
