Andy Rollinson
Chief Information Officer, Europe/Asia (London)
What are the biggest technological developments happening in the energy markets today?
There are a number of disruptive tech developments, ranging from the race to gain better access, control and governance of data, in order to increase competitive advantage, through to the introduction of artificial intelligence in the areas of decision support and analytics. We are currently active in both of these areas with projects and communities created to build and learn more. There is also a concerted push in our sector to automate all aspects of the trade life-cycle and we continue to monitor the blockchain space, which has the potential at some point to change how we confirm and settle our trades. It’s critical that we continue to provide access to new and innovative technologies, led largely by broadening our adoption of public cloud, as well as delivering continuous improvements across our entire IT estate.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
There are two things I love most about my role here: firstly, the ever-changing nature of both our business and technology means there is always something new to learn about and trial. Secondly, as cliche as it may sound, the IT staff and diversity of thinking we have across the department means everyone is able to contribute on multiple levels from product or project inception, right through to implementation. Combined, these keep me completely engaged, enthused and, occasionally, entertained.
