Joel Tan

Qualified in Computing and Information Systems, Joel is responsible for generating new leads and identifying cross-commodity opportunities in the energy derivatives markets. He provides hedging solutions to both institutional and retail prospects in the Asian Pacific region.

What project are you currently working on?

I’ve been converting market intelligence and research into actionable recommendations. The project requires me to work closely with team members and other business groups to execute origination.

Have you had any type of mentor whilst working for the company? If so, how helpful have they been?

Some parts of the daily grind are challenging but my mentor is always there to impart career wisdom. The harder you try, the more the company will provide you with opportunities. It’s a steep learning curve but there’s an infrastructure in place ready to support your ambitions. EDFT is an exciting place to work for people who have a positive can-do attitude.

What is your favourite workplace tradition?

We function as a team and because the nature of the job is fast-paced, we always have to coordinate and communicate. Teams look out for one another, it’s a tradition which has greatly aided my development.

If you could travel back in time where would you go?

I would go back to being five years old. I built houses from cardboard boxes and was carefree, fearless and bold. Those memories are priceless. I had magical powers and owned a dragon. It was great!
